HERTFORDSHIRE COUNTY DARTS ORGANISATION
was founded in 1973 and was one of the first counties to play in the British Darts Organisation Inter-Counties Championships.
The inaugral meeting was held in London on the 7th January 1973, three Hertfordshire delegates attended this meeting D Bates, D Gibson and
R Marshall the outcome was the BDO Inter-Counties was formed
In 1973 Hertfordshire was run by a committee consisting of Alan Mabbit, Don Bates who was the Manager, Larry English and L.C.Mardell and Shirley Pratchett was the Ladies Team Manager.
Hertfordshire's first ever official game was on the 11th November 1973 against Surrey at the Hatfield Social Club in Hatfield Herts.
The Men played best of 3 legs x 501 and the Ladies 801 best of 3 legs.
Although Hertfordshire's Men lost all their games in the first year finishing bottom of the 10 counties, the Ladies did win 2 games against London and Thames Valley to finish second from bottom but at least Hertfordshire can say the were founder members of the BDO.
Winners of the first Inter-Counties Championships in 1973-1974 were Lancashire in the Men and Cheshire in the Ladies.

1974 - 1975
Hertfordshire played in group One of the Inter-Counties.
Men's "B" teams were introduced and the Ladies played 4 players 501 of one leg.
First official meeting of the Hertfordshire County Darts Organisation was on 1st August 1975 at the Green Dragon in Borehamwood where draft rules of the HCDO was starting to be implemented.

Hertfordshire played in the Inter- Counties Green Group winning their Division and qualifying for the "A" team play offs won by Yorkshire
6th January 1976 Larry English resigned as Secretary Tommy Knox carried out Secretaries duties until the end of the Season/
3rd February 1976 John O'Hare resigned as Chairman, Rob Pearman was elected Chairman.
2nd March 1976 Ladies League was under discussion
AGM was held on the 27th September 1976 at the Shamrock Club, Welwyn Garden City.

During the first part of the season Robin Pearman resigned to be replaced by John Roads, further Don Bates Men's Team Manager also resigned and Peter Turner took over the Managers Duties until the end of the season.
Tommy Knox also stood down as Vice Chairman.
